Secretary Michael Chertoff
U.S. Department of Homeland Security
Washington, D.C. 20528
December 13, 2006
Dear Secretary Chertoff,
I currently work in the Private Security Field, and the company I work for
has a contract with the City of Alamogordo and various private companies.
We help protect the local sawmill with large trucks coming in from Mexico,
and with the city our roving patrol and guards check various locations, such
as:
In all we have about 35 city locations in addition to the private ones.
Private security is another set of eyes and ears in the community, and we
observe a lot of normal and unusual activities.
I believe our company along with many others should be brought into the
network that helps protect our country. I’m sure local law enforcement must
receive alerts of some kind when there are issues that involve potential
terrorism or other related concerns. The private security companies should
be, somehow, brought into this network to aid our country in protecting our
communities. I believe we are a resource that is currently being
overlooked.
I have previously been a Law Enforcement Specialist in the USAF, Sheriff’s
Jeep Posse member, a Correctional Officer and Sergeant in Arizona, a
Detention Training Officer with duties that included Background and Internal
Investigations. Currently, I enjoy working in private security with duties
that sometimes includes acting as a supervisor and I’m responsible for
drafting the various Post Orders.
During my time as the Training Officer for the Otero County Detention
Center, we never received any information about what we should be looking
for in the way of suspects or documents in their possession, etc. I believe
this is another area that is being overlooked and should be, somehow,
brought into this network.
I hope that what I have written will be useful to you. I’m just another set
of eyes and ears that believes we should be involved in some way in the
preventative measures against the growing threat to our country.
Sincerely,
Walter W. Beall
